Today is September 14, the feast of the Holy Cross.
If we trace back the history of the cross, before, the cross used to be an instrument of torture, pain, grief, anger, execution. Anything negative. You name it. It is associated to the cross.
But it is really delightful. Nowadays, how do we associate the cross. A symbol of love, a symbol of hope. A beacon of light. I would like to share the lyrics of a song written by Fr. Johnny Go, SJ. Its title is "Jesus on the Cross". The music was written by Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ.
It says: Jesus on the Cross, shelter for the lost. Reveal your light, befriend the night, fill our broken lives. Simple, but the message is very deep and meaningful.
My religion teacher once shared that whenever we see the cross, do not think of it as a symbolism of Christ's sufferings. But rather, look at it as an instrument of thanksgiving. He also said, in the cross, there are two letters: T and Y, which stands for thank you. So whenever we see Christ on the Cross. We say sorry and thank you. Sorry for our sins, thank you for the love.
Happy Feast of the Holy Cross to All!
